The colonial city of Potosí is characterized by its baroque architecture, its beauty of churches, monasteries, temples, palaces and mansions, which adorn the narrow and picturesque streets, at an altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level. The highest city in the world, located on the slopes of Cerro Rico.

Day 1: Visit to the mines of Cerro Rico – POTOSÍ

An unforgettable tour is to visit the mines of Cerro Rico. On the hill there are different cooperatives of miners who extract minerals such as zinc and lead in a fairly primitive way. The visit to the mines shows the harsh reality of the miners, who work very hard in extreme conditions. The Pailaviri mine (4200Mt.) that belongs to COMIBOL, is the oldest mine in Potosí, in continuous work since 1545.

Before visiting the mine, it is recommended to stop by the Mining Market, where they sell everything from pickaxes, shovels, coca leaves, alcohol to fuses and dynamite cartridges.
